Donut Lab has commissioned the internationally renowned VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland to independently measure the features of the company’s groundbreaking, world’s first solid-state battery ready for mass-production. The results will be released in a series through Donut Lab channels, with the first part released on Monday, February 23rd at 2 pm CET.

Technology company Donut Lab launched the world’s first all-solid-state battery, immediately available for serially manufactured vehicles, at the CES trade show in January. The battery’s exceptional features have generated an enormous amount of discussion among industry experts all over the world.

Donut Lab wants to provide more information about the promised battery features by means of research, which is why the company sent the battery to one of Europe’s leading research organisations. Owned by the Finnish state, the Technology Research Centre VTT has performed various measurements of the battery capabilities in their own research laboratory.

“The Donut Battery has generated a lot of interest among both the media and industry experts since our launch. Such an exceptional innovation has naturally also generated plenty of speculation and doubt – how is this even possible? It really is possible, and we want now to shine a light on the technical features of the battery by means of more detailed measurements”, says Donut Lab CEO Marko Lehtimäki.

Donut Lab is releasing a video series about the research results in their own social media channels and on the I Donut Believe website. The company will also publish the measurement reports in full on their website. The first video in the series will be published on Monday, February 23rd at 2 pm CET.

“Donut Lab’s battery technology truly is groundbreaking, and its introduction to the market has generated a lot of talk and shaken up the global vehicle manufacturing industry, as larger players have been trying to come up with a similar solution for years. We are continuing this conversation with a series of videos starting next week, where we take a closer look at the features and performance of the battery”, says Donut Lab CTO Ville Piippo.

Compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries, solid state batteries are significantly safer and more capable in terms of performance. Solid state battery technology has been predicted to become the next big leap forward in electric mobility for years. The Donut Battery facilitates longer range, lighter structures, and unprecedented flexibility in the design of vehicles and other products. The Donut Battery is safe and environmentally friendly, as it does not contain any flammable liquids and is not susceptible to thermal runaway in extreme conditions.
